This is a typical interior page. The navigation has been altered slightly from the home page, but retains the same look. The page headline is small enough that some of the characters looked too blurry, even though we applied the “crisp” style of anti-aliasing. To make the text look even crisper we enlarged the type and retouched each letter with Photoshop’s pencil tool and the eraser tool. The result is much sharper headline with a bare minimum of anti-aliasing in the curved sections of the letterforms, as shown in the close-up view below.

The letterform retouching affected the visual spacing between the letters which required manual adjustments of the letter spacing in each word. The navigation is placed in a nested table to prevent any stretching problems that could occur when other table cells (such as this one) are stretched beyond their orignal shape with text and graphics. The black and white tiling background image creates a strong left side edge to balance the clean, white, readable pages.

We’ve added a lot of hard returns (by pressing the Return key) at the end of this text to show that the navigation remains unaffected by the stretch of this table cell. Since the black bar is created by the tiling background image, the bar automatically fills the vertical space created by the hard returns.
