Design notes:

You’ve probably noticed that the web safe color palette is very limited in subtle, pastel colors that make nice background colors. The only color we’re usually tempted to use from the web safe palette (other than white) is a light yellow, and even that color seems pretty harsh.

The nice soft ivory background color on this page was created by placing a background image (a GIF) which was filled with a hybrid color made with the web safe light yellow color and white).

The extremely long tool handle is one graphic that was pasted repeatedly into a table cell to demonstrate how a repeating graphic can add interest to a long page without adding to download time or page overhead.
