Design Notes:

Background
The background is a tiled background GIF image. Its dimensions are 1200 x 103 pixels. Compressed, it weighs just under 4K.

Photo Image
The photo/headline slice (Chaco Canyon) was saved as a GIF rather than a JPEG. This made the photo image’s shadow a little clunky looking, but it eliminated a problem of getting the blue/green color to match in the photoimage slice and in the backgrond file when viewed in Internet Explorer.
