Design notes:
Low contrast and an almost monotone palette make this design a refreshing departure from the commonly used splashy rainbow-colored approach taken by many personal sites.
This personal site uses the navigation as as a subtle headline.

We set the Cell Alignment settings for the table cell above (the photo cell) to align="left" valign="top" to prevent the photo from sliding down the page as result of a default cell alignment setting which centers an image within the vertical space of a cell. The valign (vertical alignment) setting of “top” keeps the JPEG at the top of the cell. We created visual seperation between this text and the text on the left by nesting a table in the cell below the photo (the area you’re reading in right now), and setting the width of the nested table to 90%. The alignment setting of the cell that contains this nested table has been set to align="right" so that the text block will move to the right of the cell, creating space between the two text blocks.
