Design notes:

The rollover versions of nav buttons were created by applying a preset style from the Styles palette to a copy (duplicate layer) of the original button in Photoshop.

The nav slices were placed in a nested table so they wouldn’t be stretched apart when this cell containing HTML text was stretched down the page. We also made sure that the alignment for the table cell containing the nested nav table was set as align="left" valign="top"

The nav slices were made to line up perfectly with the background image by placing page table alignment tags in the BODY tag of the page:

leftmargin="0" topmargin="0"
marginwidth="0" marginheight="0"

Whe the nav buttons were saved as JPEGs, some JPEG artifacts (trashy, lumpy bumps) appeared in the white area around the aliased text. In Photoshop, we temporarily enlarged the viewing size of the file to 500% and used the pencil tool to retouch and remove the artifacts from around the aliased type. This not only made the image look a little cleaner, it helped reduce the size of the JPEG. Fewer stray pixels of color make for better file compression.
